International Relations Expert, Dr. Ismael Hlover, has urged MultiChoice to reach a compromise with the Government of Ghana as tensions rise over the ongoing DStv subscription price saga.
Speaking in an interview with ABC News GH, he noted that the hardline posture of the Communications Ministry requires the company to meet the state halfway to avoid further escalation.
According to him, “where the issue has gotten to, I think it is right for the diplomatic path. Given that MultiChoice is a South African-owned enterprise and given the level of trade and investment between Ghana and South Africa, it is just appropriate that the diplomatic channel is open so that the issue is ironed out so it does not affect investor confidence.”
His call comes amid diplomatic maneuvering to avert a possible suspension of MultiChoice Ghana’s operating licence.
The Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Information and Communications Committee, Charles Owiredu, has already confirmed that South Africa’s Minister of International Relations will arrive in Ghana this week to engage government officials, including Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George.
The visit is expected to ease mounting tensions surrounding the DSTV subscription fees matter.
