The Deputy Minister for Finance, Mr. Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has assured Ghanaians that while Parliament has repealed the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), its implementation will take a few more days as administrative processes are completed.
Speaking to JoyNews on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, Mr. Ampem stated that the bill had yet to be forwarded to the President for assent.
“Parliament is still in session, and I doubt if the clerks have been able to transmit what we are doing to the President. There are other bills under consideration, so I suspect it will have to be tomorrow or the day after,” he explained, adding that the President is expected to be out of town on Thursday, making it likely that the bill will be signed into law by Wednesday next week.
Once the President assents, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) will take immediate steps to halt E-Levy collection.
“The GRA is already aware of this process. My discussions with the Commissioner-General suggest that as soon as the President assents, they will move to comply,” Mr. Ampem noted.
He further stated that system reconfigurations were already underway, with expectations that the repeal would take full effect before next Friday.
