The Family and Juvenile Court in Accra has imposed a GH₵12,000 fine on Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife, Mouha Amoako, parents of the 16-year-old responsible for the deadly East Legon crash.
The fine was levied for their failure to adequately control their son’s actions, leading to the tragic incident that claimed two young lives.
In addition to the financial penalty, the court also required the Amoakos to sign an undertaking ensuring their son’s proper upbringing.
Bishop Amoako was further ordered to pay over GH₵8,000 to cover the property damage caused during the crash, including the destruction of an ECG light pole.
The sentencing follows the teen’s change of plea to guilty after initially pleading not guilty to multiple charges, including manslaughter, negligent driving, and driving without a license.
The juvenile, who was sentenced to six months at the Senior Correctional Centre, was also prohibited from driving until he reaches the legal age of 18 and ordered to report weekly to probation officers.
Assistant State Attorney Ebenezer Yaw Acquah revealed that despite the teenager’s lack of a valid license, his parents had permitted him to drive their vehicles, which played a central role in the crash.
On October 12, 2024, the boy, during his birthday celebration, drove a Jaguar F-Pace Sport recklessly, colliding with an Acura at a T-junction on Mensah Wood Avenue, leading to a fatal fire that claimed the lives of two 12-year-old girls.
