The Ghana Police Service is currently pursuing individuals behind viral social media claims that Elrad Salifu Amoako, the 16-year-old suspect driver in a fatal accident, is not in custody at the Osu Correctional Centre.
In a press statement released on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the police firmly refuted these allegations, affirming that Amoako has been detained at the Osu facility since a court order was issued on November 1.
The police described the circulating claims as false and emphasized that disseminating such misinformation breaches section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
As part of their investigation, authorities have traced two social media accounts linked to the spread of these rumors: a TikTok account under the handle “prisywanlov1” and a Facebook account named “EmpressPapa A-Amigos.”
The police are determined to track down those responsible for these accounts to ensure accountability.
“We find it deeply unfortunate that a tragic incident resulting in the loss of two beautiful souls is being exploited in an unGhanaian manner to draw attention to oneself,” the police stated, highlighting the sensitivity of the situation.
As the investigation unfolds, the police continue to urge the public to refrain from sharing unverified information that could further complicate an already heartbreaking event.
