The Eastern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Jeff Konadu Addo, has revealed that the party has reported incidents of voter intimidation against its members in certain constituencies in the region to the Police.
Speaking to ABC News GH last night, he indicated that these acts of intimidation appear to be calculated attempts to instill fear among voters and suppress turnout.
Mr. Konadu Addo expressed confidence in the security agencies to address the situation and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
“Every citizen has the right to vote in peace and without intimidation,” he stated, emphasizing the need to uphold Ghana’s democratic principles.
He also urged the Electoral Commission to make necessary logistical arrangements for the smooth transportation of election materials, particularly in the Afram Plains North and South constituencies, where the terrain poses challenges.
He called for measures to ensure voters in these areas can fully participate in the elections without any hindrances.
“Soo far, there’s been some pockets of incidents, intimidation mainly from the NDC side.”
“But we are looking out for them. We will not allow ourselves to be intimidated. The citizens of the Eastern Region must be allowed to vote freely.”
“All we want is a free and fair election,” he added.
