The Electoral Commission (EC) has gazetted parliamentary election results for 274 constituencies and submitted them to the Clerk of Parliament, with two constituencies—Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North—still pending.
The delay stems from incomplete pink sheets at some polling stations, which have stalled the re-collation of results in these areas.
Addressing the press in Accra, Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy EC Chair in charge of Corporate Services, reassured the public that discussions are underway with stakeholders to finalize the results ahead of the 9th Parliament’s swearing-in on January 7, 2025.
“We are hopeful that the two outstanding constituencies will have their Members of Parliament-elect very, very soon, way before the swearing-in,” Dr. Asare stated.
The EC had previously concluded the collation of results for seven other contested constituencies, including Obuasi East, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, and Tema Central, on December 21.
However, challenges persist in Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North due to missing data from polling stations—37 in Ablekuma North and three in Dome Kwabenya—causing the suspension of the re-collation process.
Dr. Asare defended the EC’s decision to re-collate results despite criticisms, asserting that initial declarations were made under duress and did not adhere to due process.
“The C.I.s are specific that you cannot re-collate after declarations; however, declarations must follow due process. Illegal declarations cannot be upheld by the Commission,” he explained.
Highlighting precedents from the 2004 elections where re-collation was conducted in cases of irregularities, Dr. Asare emphasized that the EC is committed to upholding the integrity of the electoral process.
