The Movement for Change is intensifying its call for a forensic audit of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) voter register, citing numerous inconsistencies.
Solomon Owusu, Senior Communicator for the Movement, stated that recent admissions and corrections made by the EC have only stress the necessity for a thorough examination of the register.
This urgency follows the identification of discrepancies highlighted by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) political party, leading to growing concerns over the integrity of the electoral process.
During an appearance on ABC IN THE MORNING on October 2, 2024, Owusu emphasized the importance of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, which he believes has reinforced the reasons for the audit.
“Clearly the IPAC meeting has given meaning to why there must be a forensic audit,” he stated.
He further urged the Commission, through its Commissioner, to adopt the position of Alan Kyeremanten promptly to address the pressing issue at hand.
In response to these calls, the EC has announced that the revised Provisional Voter Register will be available within two weeks for further scrutiny by political parties.
Despite the EC’s assurance of a robust system, the Movement for Change insists that an independent audit is essential to ensure a free and fair election set for December 7, 2024, urging stakeholders to prioritize electoral integrity as they prepare for the upcoming polls.
