Executive Director of the Centre for Conflict Resolution-Ghana (CENCOR), Rockson Konde, has launched a scathing attack on Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC), describing it as “incompetent” and “unfit for purpose.”
Speaking on ABC News GH, Mr. Konde also accused both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Minority in Parliament of exhibiting glaring double standards in their current criticism of the Commission.
“This EC has never had a successful election. They are not capable, they are incompetent, and if we don’t take care, they will jeopardize the security of this country,” he warned.
He expressed disbelief at recent remarks by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who openly chastised the EC after the 2024 polls.
“When I heard the current Minority Leader, Afenyo-Markin, chastising the EC, I couldn’t believe it,” Konde said.
“Before the 2024 election, CENCOR was on the EC asking them to do the right thing. We were told we were an NDC CSO. We were told we were crying wolf. The same people who were okay with every spec of the EC are now complaining.”
Konde emphasized that the ongoing failure of the EC threatens national stability and must be addressed with urgency.
According to him, the Commission has lost public confidence and no longer holds the legitimacy to manage Ghana’s democratic processes.
“They are not fit for purpose. It is time for them to go. They must honor the country and resign honorably,” he declared.
