The Electoral Commission (EC) has pledged to re-exhibit the corrected Provisional Voters Register (PVR) online, assuring the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that corrections will be made ahead of the 2024 General Elections.
This commitment follows a heated nationwide protest led by the NDC, dubbed “Enough is Enough,” demanding corrections to discrepancies in the provisional register and a forensic audit of the EC’s IT system.
During the protest, NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah highlighted concerns of illegal voter transfers, deleted names, and a compromised IT system.
In response, the EC acknowledged the NDC’s concerns but dismissed the call for a forensic audit, stating that the legal processes to clean the register had not been fully exhausted.
“We entreat the public to trust us to carry out our mandate,” the Commission emphasized.
The EC also revealed that a physical exhibition of the corrected register at over 40,000 centers would be logistically impossible given time constraints, opting instead for an online re-exhibition.
The EC assured the public that registered voters would have the opportunity to review the corrected register online and report any discrepancies within a designated time frame.
The online display will remain accessible until Election Day, the Commission said, promising that voters would incur no costs for the service. However, the NDC remains adamant that more transparency is needed to restore public trust.
