The Electoral Commission (EC) has temporarily halted the re-collation of parliamentary results for constituencies at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra, following mounting disagreements over the exercise.
The collation, which began earlier this week to address discrepancies in the results from several constituencies, was suspended for further consultations with the political parties involved.
The process, which was initiated to resolve issues in constituencies such as Suhum, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Fanteakwa North, and Akwatia in the Eastern Region, had been marked by tension, particularly between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Both parties raised concerns regarding the accuracy of the electoral results, with the NDC accusing the EC of discrepancies in the pink sheets from certain constituencies.
The NPP, on the other hand, expressed frustration over the handling of the process and the delays in resolving the issues.
On December 12, the EC requested police assistance to ensure maximum security at the venue, but the escalating disputes led to the decision to suspend the re-collation.
The EC emphasized that further engagements with all political parties were necessary to ensure transparency and fairness.
The commission has promised to resume the re-collation once an agreement is reached and the necessary clarifications are made.
Until then, the process remains on hold, as the EC seeks to restore order and confidence in the electoral process.
