The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana is set to conduct special voting in the Eastern and Western regions today, Thursday, December 5, 2024, ahead of the December 7 general elections.
This follows a rescheduling from the originally planned date of Monday, December 2, 2024, after the discovery of a defaced ballot paper outside the Checkpoint Printing House raised concerns about ballot integrity.
The EC announced the decision during an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Sunday, December 1.
Although the Western Region’s materials showed no irregularities, the same printing press managed both the Eastern and Western Region’s ballots.
To uphold transparency and integrity, the EC decided to recall and reprint the ballot papers for both regions.
The reprinted ballots were delivered on Wednesday, December 4, in preparation for today’s voting.
EC Chairperson Jean Mensa assured stakeholders that all essential steps had been taken to safeguard the credibility of the process.
Special voting, was conducted in 14 other regions on this Monday, December 2, enables election officials, security personnel, and media practitioners who will be on duty on election day to vote early.
Polling in the Eastern and Western regions runs from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with participation limited to individuals listed in the Special Voters Register.
