The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced plans to release the Provisional Voter Register this weekend, following concerns from political parties, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking on ABC News Ghana on Thursday, Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, Director of Training at the EC emphasized that the EC is not succumbing to any external pressure and is working within the legal framework.
“By law, we are supposed to give the political parties the provision when they are ready. We are not being pressured; when they are ready, we will make it available.
“After the compilation, we need to do identification and other processes. So we are hoping they can get them over the weekend,” he stated.
This announcement comes in response to criticisms from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which has accused the EC of unnecessary delays.

The NDC’s Director of Elections, Dr. Boamah, expressed frustration in a social media post, warning that the EC’s perceived incompetence could have serious consequences.
“The posturing and incompetence of the EC and its IT Department can plunge Ghana into anarchy if not remedied immediately,” Dr. Boamah cautioned.
In rebuttal, Dr. Quaicoe urged patience from all stakeholders and reassured the public that the EC is committed to delivering a high-quality final register.
He highlighted the importance of the upcoming voter exhibition exercise, stating, “Once we give it to them, they and the voters and everybody will help to contribute, and by the time we finish the eight-day exhibition, we will identify all the challenges and rectify them.”
