The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu has directed the immediate suspension of the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Zakaria Abdulai, over allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female student.
The directive follows an investigation by JoyNews and Manasseh Azure Awuni into the alleged misconduct at the school in the Ashanti Region.
In a press release dated Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the Ministry said the Minister for Education had instructed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take immediate steps to suspend Mr Abdulai pending full investigations into the matter.

The Minister has also requested the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service to commence investigations into the allegations.
The Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service reiterated their position that they would not tolerate or condone such alleged misconduct in any educational institution across the country.
The statement further emphasised the responsibility of teachers to protect and safeguard students entrusted to their care, noting that parents and guardians expect schools to provide a safe environment for their children.
