The Deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the National Council of Parents, Teachers Association (NCPTA), Irene Sam, has issued a firm caution to the Mahama administration, stressing that the government must respect the association’s autonomy.
Speaking to ABC News GH on Friday, January 10, she stated, “The NCPTA is an autonomous entity that is legally represented. Therefore, the Ministry of Education does not have any authority to come and give guidelines. They have no influence over us. We are on our own, and we are here to support them in whatever way possible.”
Ms. Sam emphasized that the new government must avoid interfering in the affairs of the NCPTA and instead seek consensus on issues affecting students and parents.
“This new government should take a cue and never interfere in NCPTA matters as a private entity,” she added.
Her comments follow a directive from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior High Schools (CHASS), urging parents to supplement food supplies for their wards due to severe feeding challenges in schools.
These challenges have been attributed to delayed government disbursements and uncertainties surrounding food suppliers’ contracts, further exacerbated by the absence of a substantive Minister of Education under the new administration.
