Effia Member of Parliament Isaac Boamah Nyarko has mounted a strong defense of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) handling of Ghana’s economy, crediting the government with navigating the post-COVID-19 challenges through necessary reforms.
Speaking on ABC News, he noted that the economy was showing signs of recovery before the pandemic hit and that the NPP’s decision to seek support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was a strategic move to restore stability.
Mr. Nyarko expressed disappointment over the posture of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing them of ignoring the efforts and gains made by the government.
“We are worried just as the Minority,” he said, adding that both sides of the House must take concerns to the Finance Minister, but that the NDC’s refusal to acknowledge progress is unhelpful. “They have to be condemned,” he added.
He further defended the NPP’s economic policies, stating that “the economy had taken a rebound because it was going…” and emphasized the need to see governance as a shared and continuous responsibility.
“Government is a continuum,” he concluded, urging a collective approach to addressing Ghana’s fiscal challenges.
