The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has reassured the public of its commitment to delivering a credible voter register for the upcoming December elections.
This assurance follows demands from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the immediate release of the provisional voter register ahead of the scheduled exhibition exercise.
The EC has promised a thorough voter exhibition exercise, asserting that it will result in a high-quality final register.
Director of Elections for the NDC, Dr. Boamah, expressed frustration over the delay, accusing the EC of incompetence and alleging a deliberate attempt to undermine the electoral process.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Boamah warned that the delay has caused significant concern among stakeholders, suggesting that the EC’s current approach could lead to serious consequences if not addressed promptly.
“The posturing and incompetence of the EC and its IT Department can plunge Ghana into anarchy if not remedied immediately,” he cautioned.
Responding to these claims, Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, Director of Training at the EC, dismissed the allegations and appealed for patience from the NDC and other stakeholders.
In an interview on Wednesday, Dr. Quaicoe emphasized the importance of the exhibition process, stating,
“They should understand it and once we give it to them, they and the voters and everybody will help to contribute and by the time we finish the eight-day exhibition, we will identify all the challenges and rectify them.”
He assured that the final register would be of high quality, addressing any issues identified during the exhibition period.
