Janet Nabla, the founder of the People’s National Party (PNP), has announced her intention to sue the Electoral Commission (EC) following her disqualification from the upcoming 2024 general elections.
The EC, in a statement on Friday, September 20, declared that Nabla, along with several other candidates, would not be allowed to contest in the December 7, 2024 presidential race.
Nabla expressed her disappointment and vowed to take legal action. “I will place an injunction on election 2024,” she stated during an interview, accusing the EC Chair, Jean Mensa, of being “jealous” and “dishonest.”
In addition to Janet Nabla, other notable disqualifications included Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Nana Stephens Adjepong, Paul Perkoh, and Dr. Samuel Sampong Ankrah.
The EC cited non-compliance with nomination requirements as the reason for the disqualifications.
However, Nabla argued that the process was unfair, stating that her exclusion was politically motivated. “She is being dishonest,” Nabla said, referring to Jean Mensa.
Nabla’s legal team is expected to file an injunction at the Supreme Court in the coming days to prevent the elections from proceeding as planned.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has approved 13 candidates for the December 7 elections.
In a press release dated September 20, the EC explained that after a thorough examination of the nomination forms submitted between September 9 and 13, only 13 candidates met the legal requirements.
The EC reassured the public that the nomination process was conducted transparently, ensuring that only qualified candidates would be allowed to contest.
