Deputy Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Jibril, has voiced frustrations over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) failure to release the Provisional Voters Register (PVR).
Speaking on ABC in the Morning on Tuesday, Jibril emphasized that without the PVR, the NDC cannot verify the accuracy of statistics regarding ballot printing.
“Yes, the EC has released the statistics of the ballot printing, but there is nothing to check with,” he stated. The register, he added, is essential for analyzing the upcoming election data.
“However, you can only check the accuracy of the statistics only if you have the register. And as i speak to you now, we are yet to receive this Provisional Register.”
He added that, ” it is the register that can be the basis to do the analysis. It is the register that can confirm whether really the polling stations are 731.
“Until we receive the register we cannot do say anything about the statistics released,” he said.
Despite the EC announcing that the PVR would be made available today, political parties, including the NDC, have yet to receive it.
However, the EC has convened an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting to address election-related issues. “It is the register that can confirm whether really the polling stations are 731.
Until we receive the register, we cannot say anything about the statistics released,” Jibril remarked, highlighting the urgency of the situation for the party.
Meanwhile, the EC has launched an online exhibition of the voters’ register, allowing voters to verify their details through a shortcode or the EC’s website.
This initiative seeks to clean the register ahead of the 2024 General Election.
However, political parties continue to demand greater transparency, with the NDC calling for a forensic audit of the register to ensure the credibility of the process.
“Even with this short code that we have started today. People have started having problems.
According to him, these are the issues the NDC raised, whiles the EC claimed have corrected.
“These are the same issues we raised that they said is corrected. That their IT system have a problem, and it needs a forensic audit.”
