As the countdown to the December 7 general elections intensifies, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has deepen its demands for a further investigation into not only the Voter Register but also an audit of Electoral Commission’s (EC) IT system.
During the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, asserted the necessity of addressing discrepancies in the voter register and called for a comprehensive forensic audit of both the voter register and the EC’s IT system.
The NDC believes that while the updated version of the voter register is a step forward, it merely “mops the floor” without fixing the underlying issues.
The Electoral Commission’s IT consultant, Yaw Ofori Adjei, defended the integrity of the current voter register, describing it as “the cleanest it will ever get” and robust enough for the upcoming elections. His remarks came during a live broadcast of the IPAC meeting, which was attended by all political candidates.
The EC has faced scrutiny over the accuracy of the voter register, with the NDC’s calls for a forensic audit intensifying following a nationwide protest on September 17, aimed at demanding urgent resolutions to the alleged discrepancies.
Despite the NDC’s concerns, the EC maintains that measures are in place to address the issues raised.
