The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared its Walewale parliamentary seat safe following the withdrawal of incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Lariba Zuweira Abudu, from the 2024 election race.
Alhaji Masawudu, 3rd Vice Chair of the NPP, expressed relief over the decision, stating, “Now I don’t think there is any issue again.
All matters have been put to an end.” He emphasized that Abudu’s withdrawal has secured the party’s hold on the Walewale seat, noting, “What the woman has did, I think NPP Walewale seat is safe for the party.”
Speaking to ABC News on Wednesday, Masawudu applauded Abudu’s decision, highlighting her commitment to the party. “The leadership of the NPP has applauded her for her diligence and the honorable thing she has done. That shows how patriotic she is,” he said, adding that her decision reflected her dedication to the party’s success.
He also called for unity between Abudu and Dr. Tia Abdul-Karibu Mahama to ensure a solid victory for the NPP in the constituency.
The party officially confirmed Dr. Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama as their parliamentary candidate following Abudu’s withdrawal.
In a press statement, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong explained that the National Executive Committee had unanimously approved Mahama as the sole candidate.
The party praised Abudu’s decision, urging all members to rally behind Mahama for a united front in the upcoming elections.
Despite the recent disturbances during the rerun at Walewale, Masawudu dismissed any lingering concerns.
He blamed two individuals for the chaos, stating, “Kamala was not an agent. So we don’t know how he managed to enter there.
That is why the Police apprehended him.” He assured that the situation is now under control, pending police investigations, and expressed optimism for a peaceful election campaign ahead.
