The Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has finally presented a GH₵68.1 billion mini-budget to Parliament after weeks of delays that led to a brief government shutdown at the start of the New Year.
The budget, covering the first quarter of 2025, faced earlier hurdles due to disagreements between the outgoing NPP majority and the then-minority NDC over unresolved government business, including tax waivers.
The temporary budget seeks to fund public sector salaries, statutory payments, critical infrastructure, and social intervention programs until the incoming John Mahama-led administration presents its full 2025 budget.
Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, referred the mini-budget to the Budget and Finance Committees for scrutiny, with recommendations to be brought back to the House for debate and approval.
The delays, which saw Parliament adjourn without a statement on December 20, 2024, frustrated NDC members, especially when the Finance Minister failed to appear.
Despite both sides blaming each other for the stalemate, the Vote on Account is now expected to stabilize government operations temporarily.
