A devastating fire broke out early this morning at Circle Odawna, Accra, destroying over 15 structures, most of which were wooden homes.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to a nearby warehouse and sparing over 200 other buildings in the vicinity.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire occurred near the site of another recent blaze, which had previously damaged several wooden structures in the area.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with the GNFS urging residents and business owners to exercise caution.
ABC News Gh Reporter Andy Oppong Dankyi, who was at the scene, confirmed that the fire had destroyed more than 15 homes, leaving many residents devastated.
“These structures are their homes, where they live,” said Dankyi, quoting distressed locals. “Their lives are gone.” Many affected residents expressed concerns over where they would go next, as they had lost everything in the blaze.
The authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the fire, but the community is left grappling with the aftermath of the destruction.
