Assistant Station Officer (ASO), Mr Ofori Collins, Hohoe Municipal Fire Safety Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has urged the public to avoid recycling of rusty gas cylinders by repainting.
He said repainting only beautifies the outer surface of the cylinders and did not make the cylinder new.
ASO Ofori during a sensitisation forum at the St. Augustine Catholic Church, Hohoe, urged the faithful not to overfill their gas cylinders with the intention that it would last.
He said the attendants knew the standards each cylinder could take hence they should avoid purchasing gas beyond the limits of their cylinders.
ASO Ofori also urged the faithful not to put stones on the regulators of their gas cylinders but changed them once they noticed it developed a fault to prevent any fire outbreak.
He said fire outbreaks were primarily as a result of personal factors adding that a lot of people multitasked and doing many things at the same time and mostly forgot themselves.
ASO Ofori admonished them to do a thing at a time.
He asked them to turn off all electrical appliances when going out no matter the distance.
ASO Ofori urged the public to always prioritise safety and security, noting that most fire outbreaks in the country could have been prevented.
He said in cases of accidents; the Fire Service should be the first point of call adding that safety was a shared responsibility.
