A major fire swept through a warehouse storing rubber products and a nearby takeaway facility in the Tema Industrial Area in the early hours of Tuesday, destroying both properties and leaving a firefighter injured during efforts to bring the blaze under control.

The fire broke out at about 12:40 a.m., prompting the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to deploy multiple firefighting teams to the scene to prevent the flames from spreading to neighbouring businesses within the industrial enclave.

Fire crews from the Tema Industrial, Devtraco, Motorway and Free Zones Fire Stations responded with four fire tenders and worked for several hours to contain the blaze.

During the operation, one firefighter sustained injuries after part of a wall collapsed while personnel were battling the flames. The injured officer was immediately transported to the Tema General Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

Following an intensive firefighting operation, the fire was successfully extinguished. Firefighters have since remained at the scene to carry out salvage and overhaul operations aimed at eliminating any remaining hotspots and ensuring the affected structures are safe.

Authorities have yet to assess the full extent of the damage caused by the fire.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been established and is currently under investigation by the Ghana National Fire Service.
