The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced a substantial new payment of GH¢1,001,329.00 under its Free Dialysis Programme, bringing the total disbursed amount since June to GH¢1,588,565.00.
This latest allocation, aimed at bolstering the accessibility of life-saving dialysis services, covers treatments at six major health facilities, including Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, for July and August, with an advance for September.
The move underscores the government’s commitment to alleviating the financial burden on patients requiring critical care.
The funding distribution will benefit patients across a range of age groups and facilities.
Specifically, individuals aged 18 and below and those 60 years and above will receive up to eight free dialysis sessions per month, while adults aged 19 to 59 will receive partial subsidies based on their treatment locations.
Hospitals will manage these funds to ensure full reimbursement for any out-of-pocket expenses incurred by patients during the covered months, aligning with the NHIA’s goal of ensuring continuity and accessibility of care.
This initiative is part of the NHIA’s broader strategy to enhance healthcare accessibility through substantial financial support, made possible by both the Allocation Formula and the NHIA’s Corporate Social Responsibility Budget.
