A fuel tanker explosion at Potsin Junction in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region has destroyed property and disrupted traffic along the busy Kasoa–Cape Coast highway.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, March 17, 2026, when the tanker, reportedly heading from Accra toward Cape Coast, lost control on a stretch of road currently under construction. The vehicle overturned before bursting into flames.

The resulting fire spread rapidly, consuming a nearby house and a local chop bar, according to eyewitness accounts.
Fortunately, no casualties have been recorded. The driver of the tanker is said to have escaped moments before the explosion.

Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service, including teams from Apam and Kasoa, with support from a private water tanker, responded swiftly to contain the blaze and prevent further damage.

Emergency personnel from NADMO and the Ghana Police Service were also deployed to manage the situation and restore calm.
The incident caused heavy vehicular congestion on the highway, with motorists stranded for hours as emergency teams worked at the scene.
Authorities are yet to determine the exact cause of the accident, though poor road conditions on the construction stretch are suspected to have contributed.
