Gabby Otchere-Darko, a leading figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has challenged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, to substantiate their corruption allegations against President Nana Akufo-Addo, his family, or his appointees.

In a statement made on Friday, August 9, Otchere-Darko criticized the NDC for what he described as baseless accusations.

He questioned the credibility of the allegations, urging the opposition to present any case that compares to the Airbus scandal that implicated the previous Mahama-led administration.

“Let’s dare the opposition and their ‘squeaky clean’ leader to name one clear case (not mere allegation) against Akufo-Addo, his family members, or appointees that come anywhere remotely close to this Airbus case,” Otchere-Darko posted on social media.

Otchere-Darko further condemned the NDC’s reliance on a publication, “Agyapadie,” which he dismissed as a “book of fiction.”

He argued that the opposition party has been using this book as their primary evidence to assert that the hardships faced by Ghanaians are worse than those under Mahama’s administration.

He defended the Akufo-Addo government, citing substantial investments in welfare and development projects aimed at improving the lives of Ghanaians. Otchere-Darko also criticized the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, labeling him the “chief propagandist” for lauding Mahama after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) cleared the former president of bribery charges related to the Airbus scandal.

The NPP stalwart did not shy away from highlighting what he perceives as hypocrisy within the NDC, particularly in their attacks on the Akufo-Addo administration.

He pointed to recent controversies involving relatives of government officials, contrasting them with the more serious accusations surrounding the Airbus scandal.

Otchere-Darko expressed relief for Mahama, acknowledging the challenges of being under investigation for four years but remained firm in his criticism of the NDC’s approach to corruption allegations.

“Let them put the Airbus case side by side with any of the charges they continue to lay at the NPP’s doorstep,” he concluded, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in Ghana’s political discourse.
