The Ghana Armed Forces has announced the commencement of training for the first batch of recruits selected under its ongoing nationwide recruitment exercise.

According to a press release issued by the Department of Public Relations at General Headquarters in Burma Camp, the military has completed the selection of 2,000 recruits, representing the first in a series of four batches.

The statement noted that successful applicants have been invited to report to designated selection centres across all 16 regions on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., where they will receive their appointment letters and training prospectus.

Authorities also encouraged applicants who were unable to progress due to treatable medical conditions to seek medical attention and return for reassessment at a later date without additional cost.

In a notable move, the military disclosed that 18 individuals who sustained injuries during last year’s El-Wak Stadium stampede have been included in the first batch of recruits. Additionally, five others have been sponsored by families of victims who lost their lives in the incident.

“The selected personnel who have been invited are to report… for their appointment letters and prospectus,” the statement added.

The Armed Forces expressed appreciation to regional administrations for their support in decentralising the recruitment process, describing it as instrumental in ensuring wider access and efficiency.

“The Ghana Armed Forces expresses its gratitude to all the 16 Regional Administrations for their immense support that enabled this year’s exercise to be organised at the regional level,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, applicants who are yet to be selected have been urged to remain calm, as the recruitment process is still ongoing. The military indicated that a pool of high-performing candidates from the aptitude tests would be considered for future enlistment beyond this year.

“The Military is pleased to indicate that it has a pool of young applicants who scored high marks during the aptitude test and will therefore make selection from the pool for subsequent recruitment exercises,” it noted.

The statement further revealed that a directive is under consideration to facilitate recruitment for individuals from Sikaman in the Ashanti Region who assisted during last year’s helicopter crash rescue operations.
