The Coordinator of Eco-Conscious Citizens, Awula Serwah has raised serious concerns about the quality of water currently being distributed by the Ghana Water Company Limited.
She called on the company to be transparent with the public about the state of the water, stressing that clarity does not mean safety.
She noted that Ghana Water is investing heavily to make the water clear for consumption but questioned whether the water is safe.
“Ghana Water is spending so much to make the water clear, not safe but clear,” she emphasized, adding that citizens deserve to know the health risks involved.
According to her, the dangers posed by illegal mining to water bodies cannot be underestimated, as millions of Ghanaians are at risk of long-term health complications.
“We are all being poisoned, we face a catastrophe,” she warned, insisting that health must be prioritized over economic considerations.
She further urged Ghana Water to come clean on what exactly is passing through the pipes into homes across the country.
“But our health is more important than our pockets. Tell us what exactly is passing through our pipes,” she added, reinforcing her call for transparency and accountability in the face of galamsey’s devastating impact on water production.
