The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced a comprehensive investigation into allegations of widespread malpractice during the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The move comes after a JoyNews TV report suggested that certain schools may have orchestrated organised cheating in the nationwide assessment.
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service said it has requested the full documentary, complete with original transcripts, for immediate review.
GES stressed that the evidence will be carefully scrutinised before a thorough inquiry is launched into the matter.
The statement condemned examination malpractice in the strongest terms, noting that it erodes the principle of meritocracy and results in graduates “who lack the competencies required for national development.”
Officials stressed that such practices compromise the credibility of Ghana’s education system and risk long-term damage to national progress.
The GES further disclosed that the investigation is being supported by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu and the GES Council.
It assured the public that any teacher, invigilator, or non-teaching staff found complicit in facilitating malpractice will face severe disciplinary action.
By pledging accountability and firm sanctions, the Service signaled its determination to safeguard the credibility of the BECE, protect genuine candidates, and restore public confidence in the nation’s examinations.
