President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to leading the country with humility, integrity and dedication while urging citizens to actively contribute to national development.
Speaking during Ghana’s Independence Day celebration marking the country’s 69th anniversary on Friday, March 6, the President emphasised that Ghana’s progress requires the collective effort of all its citizens.
The anniversary was commemorated under the theme “Building Prosperity, Inspiring Hope.”
Addressing the public at the national event, President Mahama reflected on the country’s journey since independence, noting that despite numerous challenges, Ghanaians have continued to demonstrate resilience and determination.
“The journey has not always been smooth. We have stumbled and often felt disappointed in ourselves, but we have never given up,” President Mahama said, highlighting what he described as the enduring resilience of the Ghanaian spirit.
He also used the occasion to pledge his commitment to the welfare of citizens while stressing that national progress cannot depend on one individual.
“As your president, I pledge to serve with integrity, humility, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of our people. But Ghana’s progress cannot rely solely on my leadership; it will depend on every citizen doing their part,” he added.
President Mahama acknowledged that the nation continues to face significant challenges but expressed confidence in the ability of Ghanaians to overcome them through unity and commitment to the national interest.
He therefore encouraged citizens across the country and in the diaspora to contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation in whatever capacity they find themselves.
“Wherever you are, whatever you do, do your part with excellence. Do it for Ghana, for Africa, and for the generations yet unborn,” he said.
