The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has categorically debunked allegations circulating in a viral audio recording on social media, which claimed improper use of military facilities for transporting ammunition.
In a statement dated December 25, 2024, GAF labeled the allegations as entirely false and urged the public to disregard the misinformation.
The viral audio suggested that a civilian pickup truck was granted access to the Magazine at the 5 Battalion of Infantry to transport ammunition to an undisclosed location. However, GAF clarified that the vehicle was used to deliver a live cow, recently acquired by the military. The cow was quarantined upon delivery before being moved to the kraal adjacent to the Magazine.
The Armed Forces condemned the circulation of unverified information, emphasizing its potential to incite fear and panic.
“Such actions tend to create unnecessary tension and also cause fear and panic in the country, especially around this period,” the statement noted.
The GAF reassured citizens of its transparency and called on individuals or groups with concerns to contact its Department of Public Relations directly. It further highlighted its unwavering commitment to maintaining Ghana’s peace and sovereignty.
The release also urged media houses to exercise caution and accuracy in reporting on matters involving the Armed Forces. GAF stressed the importance of responsible journalism in ensuring that the public receives credible and factual information.
