The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the commencement of the Ghana Card registration for minors aged between 6 and 14 years, beginning on October 7, 2024.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to ensure that every citizen is included in the national identification system.
The first phase of the registration will be conducted in schools across selected districts, strategically aimed at providing easy access for eligible children.
Deputy Director of Operations at the NIA has underscored the significance of this initiative, noting that incorporating children into the national database is crucial for achieving comprehensive identification for all Ghanaians.
He stated that this registration for children aged 6 to 14 is a vital step in the plan to register every Ghanaian in the country.
The NIA has previously registered individuals over 15 years old and has already completed registrations for children aged 0 to 5 years.
This new phase represents the final segment of their comprehensive registration plan, which also includes Ghanaians residing abroad.
The Deputy Director emphasized, “Everybody needs the card; without it, you can’t do anything meaningful. It’s important we rope in the 6 to 14-year-olds.”
