A major technical fault at the Ghana Gas Processing Plant has led to a temporary disruption in gas supply to thermal power plants, causing power supply challenges in parts of the country.

In a joint press release issued on April 15, 2026, by Ghana National Gas Company and Ghana Grid Company Limited, authorities confirmed that the incident was triggered by the complete failure of the Burner Management System (BMS) controller for the plant’s Heat Medium System (HMS).

According to the statement, preliminary assessments indicate that the affected system has sustained significant damage and will require full replacement.

The fault forced an emergency shutdown of the processing plant, leading to an immediate curtailment of gas supply to thermal power producers. This has consequently resulted in power supply disruptions in some parts of the country.

The agencies noted that a comprehensive technical and safety risk assessment is currently underway to determine the most effective and secure approach to restoring operations within the shortest possible time.

Engineers have since been deployed to work around the clock to replace the damaged system and expedite the restoration process.

“Subject to the outcome of ongoing assessments, Ghana Gas will commence processes to restore operations within the course of today,” the statement said.

Authorities have assured the public that updates will be provided as the situation evolves, while urging citizens to remain patient during the disruption.

The companies also apologised for the inconvenience caused, expressing appreciation for public understanding and cooperation as efforts continue to stabilise the energy supply.
