Minister for Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has disclosed that the country is currently producing about 40, 000 housing unit per year with the private sector leading the way.
According to him, this 40, 000 units only make up about 5% of Ghana’s housing demands leaving behind a high housing deficit.
However, speaking to ABC News Ghana, the sector minister noted that the government is targeting to double this with the support of the private sector.
“We have to do better to deliver more housing units beyond the 40, 000 to may be double of that,” he said.
The minister says that government will in the coming outdoor a housing reform package to address the challenges in the housing sector and incentivize the private sector.
“Working with 28 different stakeholder groups, we have come out with a reformed package with incentive that will support the private sector so that they can built faster and cheaper for the benefit of Ghanaians”, he stated.
