The Managing Director of the Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL), Nana Kwasi Boatey Esq., has called for a complete legislative reform to modernize the institution and remove operational bottlenecks.
Speaking on Focus on ABC with Joshua N.K Ayira, he noted that the company’s current governing Act dates back to 1965 and does not reflect the changing dynamics of the industry.
“We really need to have a legislative reform completely, have our act changed. There are things we need to do to position this company for the success that is coming its way, and we need to remove some of the bottlenecks that are already there,” he stated.
According to him, outdated procurement processes are slowing down the company’s ability to compete in the market, causing significant delays in acquiring materials and losing major printing contracts.
“Securing materials for work through PPA is causing delays, which in turn makes us lose work. These are matters we need to address urgently,” he emphasized.
He stressed that GPCL is a limited liability company that generates its own revenue, but structural reforms will make it more efficient and competitive in Ghana’s publishing and printing industry.
To address this, the MD revealed that his team is working on a comprehensive plan to reposition the company as a leading publishing house in West Africa. He noted that digitization is one of the top priorities, as it will eliminate many challenges associated with traditional publishing.
“Instead of people traveling long distances to buy an Act, we can make it available on an e-bookshop. Digitalization is part and top of our agenda,” he added.
He assured stakeholders that efforts are underway to build a robust corporate brand that will ensure GPCL’s dominance in both local and subregional markets.
