The Managing Director of Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL), Nana Kwasi Boatey Esq., has assured the Ghana Legal Information Institute (GhaLII) of his commitment to making all printed legal materials and related information accessible to the public through GhaLII’s digital platforms.
Speaking at the opening of a two-day workshop on sustainable access to law in Accra, he emphasized the importance of digital publishing, while noting that printing remains a vital revenue source and operational pillar for GPCL.
Nana Kwasi Boatey affirmed GPCL’s readiness to support the initiative, stating, “we’re ever desirous of making the legal materials free and open to the public on GhaLII platform.”
He also acknowledged ongoing challenges with acquiring gazettes but reiterated the company’s willingness to collaborate with GhaLII without compromising document integrity.
“We’ve challenges with gazette acquisition but we’re very willing to assist GhaLII while maintaining the integrity of the document,” he added.
The workshop, jointly organised by GhaLII and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), attracted major players in Ghana’s legal and justice sectors.
Key speakers included the 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, who emphasized the need for laws to be easily accessible to citizens.
Osei Bonsu Amoah, founder of GhaLII, also urged the State to prioritise public access to legal texts, stressing the unfairness of expecting legal compliance from uninformed citizens.
