Ghana has confirmed its first death from Mpox since the outbreak began, according to a public health update released by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on July 22, 2025.
The report also confirmed 23 new infections, bringing the total number of Mpox cases in the country to 257.
“Unfortunately, 1 new death has been reported,” the GHS stated.
The health authorities continue to stress that Mpox is primarily transmitted through close contact with infected individuals. As such, the public is being urged to stay alert and observe all recommended preventive measures to curb the spread.
The GHS has advised the public to avoid close contact with infected persons, wash hands regularly, and report any symptoms early to the nearest health facility.
The Service has assured citizens that surveillance efforts are ongoing and adequate care is being provided to those affected.
Mpox typically presents with symptoms such as fever, rashes, swollen lymph nodes, and muscle aches, and while most cases are mild, severe complications can occur in individuals with weakened immune systems.
