Ghanaian gospel musician Bernice Offei has died at the age of 63.
Offei reportedly passed away on the morning of Saturday, September 12, 2026, bringing to an end a music career spanning several decades.
She released six studio albums during her career, with her sixth album, Life, released in 2007. The album earned her two major honours at the 2009 Ghana Music Awards — Best Female Vocal Performance and Songwriter of the Year.
Outside music, Offei worked in the banking sector and spent several years with Standard Chartered Bank.
She also had an academic background, holding an MPhil in Crop Science from the University of Ghana and an MSc in Information Technology from a university in the United Kingdom.
Offei was briefly reported missing on September 1, 2026, after she was last seen in Accra. Her family and local authorities later confirmed, within 24 hours, that she had been found safe.
News of her death has since drawn tributes from members of Ghana’s gospel music community and others who admired her work and contribution to the country’s gospel music industry.
