Ghana’s gospel music fraternity has been plunged into deep mourning following the death of legendary gospel vocalist Maame Tiwaa, widely celebrated for her phenomenal contributions to the Yaw Sarpong & Asomafo music group.
She passed away in the early hours of Sunday, December 7, 2025, after a brief illness.
Born Mary Tiwaa, the celebrated singer was a towering figure in the gospel music landscape for more than three decades.
Her unmatched vocal delivery and spiritual depth cemented her place as one of the most influential female voices in Ghanaian gospel music.
Maame Tiwaa became a household name through her remarkable work with Yaw Sarpong & Asomafo, contributing to some of the group’s most iconic songs, including Wo Haw Ne Sen?, Awurade Ka Me Ho, Yen Fa Oye Nkoaa, and Mensuro.
