One person has been confirmed dead, with several others sustaining varying degrees of injury, following a head-on collision involving two commercial vehicles at Ejisu-Krapa on the Accra–Kumasi Highway.
The accident occurred when a blue Toyota Hiace bus, with registration number AS-3552-20, reportedly suffered brake failure while descending a hill at high speed. The vehicle subsequently lost control, veered off its lane and collided head-on with an oncoming Ford bus conveying passengers from Kumasi to Ejisu township.
About thirty passengers were on board the two vehicles at the time of the crash. Victims sustained multiple injuries and were rushed to the Living Waters Hospital in the area for emergency treatment.
Health officials at the facility confirmed that eleven of the injured are currently undergoing surgery, while thone of the country’s busiest transport corridors.e rest are in stable condition with multiple lacerations. The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Gabriel Sakyi Kwofie, said the victims are responding to treatment and are expected to be stabilised.
However, one passenger, believed to be in his seventies, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash at the hospital.
Among the injured are two students, a female secondary school student and a nursing trainee, who were reportedly on their way to school at the time of the accident.
The incident has reignited public concerns over road safety on the Accra–Kumasi Highway, which is one of the country’s busiest transport corridors.
