Tensions between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) erupted in Gomoa West during the commissioning of equipment for the District Road Infrastructure Project (DRIP).
The altercation, which took place on Monday, followed disagreements over the display of NPP parliamentary candidate Baisie Nkum’s images on the newly commissioned DRIP machinery.
The situation escalated into near-violence, with Baisie Nkum, who also serves as the District Chief Executive for Gomoa West, accusing Richard Gyan Mensah, the area’s NDC Member of Parliament, of pulling out a gun.
According to Nkum, the MP brandished the weapon and issued threats against local NPP supporters, further heightening the tension between the two political factions.
A video circulating on social media captured the aftermath of the confrontation, showing Baisie Nkum publicly accusing Richard Gyan Mensah of the dangerous act.
The incident has sparked widespread concern and reignited longstanding political rivalries in the district.
