Ghana’s Ministry of Defence has reached an agreement with Airbus Helicopters for the acquisition of four aircraft to support military, emergency and transport operations.

Airbus Helicopters said the contract signals its renewed engagement with Ghana, with an emphasis on long-term cooperation and after-sales support. Neither the company nor the government disclosed the financial terms of the deal.

The order includes two H175M helicopters, as well as one ACH175 and one ACH160. According to Airbus, the H175M aircraft will be deployed in multi-role capacities, including logistics and personnel transport, search and rescue missions, emergency medical services and disaster response operations.

The ACH175 and ACH160 helicopters are expected to be used primarily for transport functions.

Head of Africa and the Middle East Region at Airbus Helicopters, Arnaud Montalvo, described the agreement as a strategic move that reflects Ghana’s renewed confidence in the manufacturer’s platforms.

He said the selection of the H175M highlights its adaptability across a range of defence and security tasks, while the addition of the ACH models places Ghana among key operators of Airbus’ high-end corporate helicopters in West Africa.

The H175, introduced into service in 2014, is a super-medium helicopter designed to deliver long-range performance, high payload capacity and stable flight characteristics. It is used globally for military, public service and commercial missions, including disaster relief and search and rescue.

The ACH160, the newest aircraft in the Airbus Corporate Helicopters portfolio, is regarded as the most technologically advanced helicopter currently available. It features 68 patented Airbus technologies and offers increased cabin space and larger windows, delivering improved passenger comfort over earlier-generation medium twin helicopters.

The helicopter acquisition forms part of the government’s defense modernisation programme outlined in the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy presented in November 2025.
