The government has launched a nationwide recall of Diplomatic and Service Passports issued during the Akufo-Addo administration to address concerns about potential misuse and ensure adherence to international standards.
This directive, detailed in a letter from the Office of the President, was signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, and sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 14, 2025.
Dr. Mahama emphasized the importance of the exercise in safeguarding the nation’s reputation and maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s diplomatic engagements.
“This exercise aligns with the Government’s commitment to ensuring the proper use and administration of official travel documents by national and international standards,” the letter read.
To facilitate the process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to notify all holders of these passports to return them by January 24, 2025.
The recall includes a verification exercise to review eligibility and ensure compliance with current issuance criteria.
The government reassured its full support in the initiative, calling for cooperation from all affected individuals to prevent inconveniences and bolster the credibility of Ghana’s passport system.
The Ministry is expected to issue further details in the coming days to guide the verification and re-issuance process, emphasizing the administration’s dedication to upholding transparency and efficiency in this critical undertaking.
