The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, has announced the government’s commitment to constructing a 3.6km bridge over the River Afram in the Eastern Region, alongside the development of nearly 100km of road network.
The project, a key component of President Mahama’s “Big Push” infrastructure agenda, aims to open up the Afram Plains, drive agricultural productivity, and create new opportunities in agro-processing and trade.
Some of the priority roads under consideration include Mpraeso–Obomeng–Nkawkaw, Ekye Amanfrom–Takoratwene, and Donkorkrom–New Kyeiase.
Following an assessment tour with engineers at the proposed bridge site, Hon. Agbodza told journalists in Donkorkrom that, “President Mahama is committed to opening up the Afram Plains once and for all.”
He emphasized that the bridge, once completed, will serve as a strategic economic corridor linking the Eastern, Ashanti, and Oti regions.
In a post on X, the minister added that this initiative is not just about roads and bridges but about transforming livelihoods, reducing poverty, and integrating rural economies into the national development framework.
