The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has reviewed the curfew hours for the Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas in the Upper East Region.
A press release dated July 30 announced that, based on advice from the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, the new curfew will run from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am effective Thursday, July 31, 2025.
This revision follows an initial 2:00 pm to 6:00 am curfew imposed on July 27, 2025.
The statement urged Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, and the youth in the area to exercise restraint and adopt non-violent means in addressing the challenges confronting the community.
Additionally, a total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons remains in place. Anyone found with such items will be arrested and prosecuted.
The reviewed curfew follows renewed violence in the municipality. To restore peace and stability, the Ghana Armed Forces has deployed personnel to the area.
According to Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, about four hundred troops are expected to be stationed in Bawku as part of ongoing peacekeeping and stabilization efforts.
General Gbetanu noted that the recent resurgence of violence in both Bawku and Binduri has been brought under control.
