The Government of Ghana has pledged to cover the full travel expenses of Doris Adu Gyamfi, the mother of slain Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong, to enable her to travel to the United States to attend her son’s funeral.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the Mahama Administration would also contribute towards ensuring a dignified funeral for the 15-year-old, who was fatally shot in the Bronx, New York.
In a statement, Mr Ablakwa welcomed the intervention of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and US President Donald Trump in securing a visa for the bereaved mother.
He disclosed that he had spoken with Madam Adu Gyamfi and assigned officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assist her with the visa application process.
The Minister described the mother’s grief as unimaginable, stressing that everything must be done to ensure she is able to travel to the United States to pay her last respects to her son.
“We have always known we can count on our own Kwame Mamdani,” Mr Ablakwa said, expressing appreciation to the New York City Mayor for his intervention.
He further assured that the government remained committed to working with relevant stakeholders to secure justice for Javits.
“We resolve to continue to work together in securing justice for Javits,” he added.
