The government has unveiled a multi-billion-cedi road infrastructure initiative in Tamale, aimed at enhancing road connectivity and driving economic growth across Ghana.
The project, led by Finance Minister and Karaga MP, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, includes a GH¢17 billion investment in road construction this year.
Dr. Amin Adam clarified that the initiative is funded through treasury bills, not MPs’ Common Fund, as claimed by the opposition.
He emphasized that the project would enhance both rural and urban connectivity, making it easier for farmers and rural communities to transport goods to city centers.
The initiative has received strong support from local leaders, including His Royal Majesty Yaa Naa Abukari II, Overlord of Dagbon, who expressed satisfaction with the government’s dedication to improving road infrastructure.
The Northern Region is set to benefit from 131 new pieces of equipment, which will create 400 direct jobs and significantly improve the region’s road network.
Northern Regional Minister, Alhassan Saani Saibu, noted that the equipment would include water tankers, backhoes, rollers, and more, marking a major leap forward for the region.
Dr. Amin Adam also took the opportunity to counter claims by the opposition NDC that the equipment was procured using MPs’ Common Fund.
He explained that the government has allocated GH¢5.7 billion to the district assembly common fund this year, of which only 5% goes to MPs.
He urged the public to disregard the NDC’s allegations, stressing that the project aligns with the government’s broader goals for economic recovery and sustainable development.
