Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George has vowed that government will sanction any telecommunications company that fails to meet the country’s quality of service standards.
Addressing the public during the Government Accountability Series, he emphasized that mobile network operators that flout their regulatory obligations or alter pricing without approval from the National Communications Authority (NCA) would face hefty penalties.
“I cannot as minister continue to watch what is watched as plain stealing,” he stated.
This declaration is part of the government’s broader strategy to ensure that Ghanaians receive fair and reliable service in the digital space.
With growing complaints about call drops, poor data speeds, and inconsistent network availability, the Ministry has made quality enforcement a central pillar of its regulatory agenda.
Sam George added that the NCA had been empowered to act swiftly against defaulting telcos as part of this effort.
The statement follows recent government moves to pressure DStv into lowering its subscription rates by August 7, a sign of increasing regulatory assertiveness.
As Ghana’s economy continues to show signs of recovery — including a stronger cedi and lowered inflation — the government is pushing for improved consumer experiences and accountability across the communications and broadcast sectors.
