Accra Lions FC have been fined GH¢5,000 by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after being found guilty of improper social media conduct following their 1-0 defeat to Dreams FC on match day 16.
The GFA Disciplinary Committee determined that the club’s comments on social media were inappropriate and undermined the integrity of the league.
According to an official statement from the GFA, Accra Lions violated Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019, which classifies such behavior as misconduct that brings the game into disrepute.
During and after the match, Accra Lions made several critical posts targeting the match officials. The most concerning was a tweet that suggested external influences had determined the outcome in favor of Dreams FC.
The GFA Prosecutor deemed this a serious violation, as it cast doubts on the fairness of the league and tarnished the reputation of match officials.
In addition to the GH¢5,000 fine, Accra Lions have been issued a strict warning. The club has been advised to exercise restraint in its social media commentary, as any future violations could result in more severe disciplinary measures.
This ruling serves as a clear message that clubs must be responsible in their public statements, particularly on digital platforms, to uphold the professionalism and credibility of Ghanaian football.
